Going Green
A brief history of how one simple idea helped to make the auto industry a whole lot greener
When iPacket first hit the scene over a decade ago, the company was largely focused on rethinking the “Evidence Manual” or “Value Folder” that dealerships begrudgingly relied on as their daily source of vehicle records.
Just one of these paper-packets often included more than 20 pages of individually printed documents, including: CarFAX reports, warranty docs, inspection receipts, repair orders, scanned brochures, and other important vehicle records.
These thick folders were printed at the dealership, stored in filing cabinets, and eventually handed to the customer when they came in to purchase a vehicle (albeit, sometimes with certain documents redacted). Not only was this practice wasteful, it was also cumbersome and pretty antiquated. After all, most customers were used to finding this kind of information online themselves, using resources like CarFAX and KBB. So why hadn’t dealerships evolved their document presentation process to follow suit?
The truth is, no one had invented a good platform for dealerships to do this. No one had made this process of aggregating and digitizing documents easy for the dealership. That’s where iPacket came in.
While other platforms had made it easy for consumers to access important documentation, iPacket represented the first dealer-focused solution for presenting vehicle documents in a consistent, compelling way – one that highlighted a dealer’s unique process and story.
Fast-forward to Present Day
Today, iPacket’s platform has expanded to provide far more than just document digitization. However, documents are still at the core of everything we do, and we do it all digitally.
We’re currently serving over 3,000 dealer partners across North America. Within 12 years, we’ve created over 50 Million digital iPackets.
Remember that traditional “Evidence Manual” or “Value Folder” we mentioned above? It typically contains about 20 pages, right? Well, a tree contains roughly 10,000 pieces of paper.
50 Million Packets x 20 Pieces of Paper = 1 Billion Pieces of Paper
1 Billion Pieces Total / 10,000 Pieces per Tree = 100,000 Trees
iPacket has made the evidence manual paperless, which means our 3,000 dealer-partners have saved an estimated 100,000 trees over 12 years, by going digital with iPacket! The craziest thing is that this wasn’t even something we set out to do, just a pretty awesome consequence of working smarter.
